Hello. It’s been awhile. I hope autumn has held some quiet goodness and golden light for you, as it has for me. I know so many people are in such difficult circumstances right now. I’ve been praying daily the Evening Prayer II from the Book of Common Prayer, with its plea that God both pity the afflicted and shield the joyous.
Family care needs have needed more of my time lately, so I’ve been more quiet online. But last week I had the opportunity to spend a few days at Wheaton College. I got to meet some amazing people, talk about Elisabeth Elliot, spend some time digging around in the Archives, and just sit and enjoy the pollinator garden outside the Wade Center in the sunshine. It was lovely.
The staff at the Archives have graciously made available a link to a recording of my presentation, “‘The Actual True is the Sum of All These’: Archival Research and the Life of Elisabeth Elliot,” and I want to share that with you, plus some photos from my trip.

Now on to the next part, which is organizing all the photographs I took of archival materials so I can continue the process of reading and thinking about them. Yay!
This is an older post, but I just finished your Elliot biography. Excellent!! I could hardly put it down. I have loved EE most of my life. We named our firstborn, our daughter Corrie Elisabeth, after my two spiritual heroes. I met EE briefly a couple of times, exchanged a couple letters, and have a picture of Elisabeth holding Corrie when she just a few months old. (Now Corrie is 29!).
Your book was just so well done. I loved how you didn’t just “report” a chronological account of her life, but actually observed, analyzed, theorized, questioned, and thoughtfully delved into the complexities that make up any life. I was in tears at the very end and felt once again so thankful for Elisabeth’s life.
Lucy, admittedly I’m not too familiar with Elliott’s work. So this is a refreshing find. I can feel your enthusiasm for archival research in your writing. And that puts a smile on my face. I appreciate you sharing this.
